The Psychiatric Inpatient Program (PIP) is an inpatient psychiatric program operated within the California Health Care Facility (CHCF), Stockton. The PIP has both an Acute Treatment Program and an Intermediate Treatment Program. CHCF, including PIP, is licensed as a Correctional Treatment Center, Title 22, Division 5, Chapter 12. PIP is accredited by the Joint Commission as a Behavioral Healthcare Facility.

In addition to the information as described in the California Department of Human Resources specifications for this classification, Rehabilitation Therapists - Recreation (Safety) apply therapeutic habilitation-rehabilitation knowledge, skill enhancement activities, and techniques to the problems of developmental, mental, or physically disordered offenders or individuals with a major mental disorder. Under the general supervision of the Program Director - Chief, Rehabilitation Therapy and the direct supervision of the Supervising Rehabilitation Therapist, the incumbent performs duties within the scope of their discipline and training, consistent with the rehabilitation therapy services manual, and the overall goals and objectives of the Psychiatric Inpatient Program-Stockton intermediate and acute treatment facility.
The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued an Order on August 19, 2021 which requires workers working in a healthcare setting at all local and state correctional facilities and detention centers be vaccinated against COVID-19. Therefore, all workers identified under the CDPH Order are required to either be vaccinated or submit a medical or religious accommodation. While working through either of these interactive processes, staff shall wear an N95 mask and test twice-weekly (with at least 72 hours between each test) until they comply with the August 19, 2021 CDPH Order.
